When you hear the first tones, the first seconds, the first everything…it is just impossible not to connect Celtic Frost with Barbarian. These 3 Ba-pa-da-boopies (as you all know, you can speak fluent Italian by growing a moustache) with the aliases Borys Crossburn, Blackstuff and Sledgehammer just go completely Celtic Frost on your ass with opener “Obtuse Metal”.
After that you will get a more thrashy Heavy / Blackened Speed Metal with a slight ‘n roll touch that will reach your ears. Something like Eternal Autumn’s “The Storm” mixed with some Teutonic 80s Power Metal, Manowar, Venom and aforementioned Celtic Frost. The influences ranges with every song but you will definitely hear the differences between “Obtuse Metal”, “Birth and Death of Rish’Ah” and the closing title track. Sure, I hear some nice things but I’m not convinced with “To No God Shall I Kneel” as a whole, therefore the flow of different influences throughout the album doesn’t connect for me to fully enjoy the effort of Barbarian.
