Azatoth – Ungodly Carnage [Demo]

azatoth – ungodly carnage [demo]

Info

The guys of Azatoth, a Finnish Death Metal band, returned with their recording in the summer of 2022. Their previous EP was covered on our VM-Underground pages already and was described as a mix between the early steps of Convulse, Funebre and Abhorrence. Not quite the least string of bands to be compared with when you consider the age and experience of the individual band members.

With their newly released ‘Ungodly Carnage’ the band outdid themselves in terms of song writing and musicianship, basically the same kind of development that fellow Finnish Death Metal band Disguised Malignance did – with which they not quite coincidently share their guitarist and drummer. They rid themselves from the all too obvious Finnish Death Metal influences in favour of a more varied Death Metal sound. Though their Finnish roots are still peaking through every now and then, mainly in the grinding sort of guitars and the drum sound, but there is an obvious chunk of Incantation, early Cannibal Corpse, Monstrosity and even some Morbid Angel to be found in their brand of Death Metal.

That these youngsters know their craft and, not in the least part, know their classics, is more than obvious. It all blends well into a quite convincing and tasty morsel of Old Schoolism. Definitely worth checking out if you have a penchant for anything that remotely sounds authentic. It is also quite telling that Spotify decided to play a demo version one of Dismember’s ultimate classics, ‘Deathevokation’, after this EP, and that transition actually felt just amazingly seamless.
