Autopsy – Horrific Obsession [EP]

autopsy – horrific obsession [ep]

Info

These are actually the most critical releases. Bands that always claimed not to go for any reunion and then … out of the blue, come up with new material. Still it is thumbs up that these two new tracks are available on good old 7” vinyl instead of some sort of iTune download or whatever. Yet, is this the Autopsy we know from the first two records, or…

Actually, this is not that bad. The production is really raw and reminds of the earlier days of death metal, and that is, I think, the best achievement. Autopsy’s capability of writing dirty riffs and songs is still their but seems a bit rusty after all these years. Though Chris Reifert and Danny Coralles played in Abscess and The Ravenous all the time and should have been right ‘in shape’, the riffs are not that impressive. It is just not that mind-boggling as the first inceptions of the band, but I don’t think anyone was expecting that. At least, the right spirit is there. And, not in the least place, the doomy feel, that made “Mental Funeral” the iconic album it is, is ever present on both of these new songs. All that, the nicely done solo’s and that crunchy guitar sound makes this a very nice listen.

Basically, by summing this all up, there isn’t much to complain about and this 7” EP is right on the spot. Limited to a 1000 copies, this 7” shouldn’t be too hard to grab, yet Peaceville is selling them through their own webshop exclusively.
