Aosoth – Aosoth

aosoth – aosoth

Info

Aosoth was originally formed as a side project of Antaeus members, and released a split 10”MLP with that same band shortly after its inception. After a 5-year absence from the release front they surfaced again, releasing another split, this time with Temple Of Baal. Their self-titled debut album is now out through Total Holocaust Records.

Aosoth currently consists of Antaeus front man MkM and recent addition BsT, who is also active in Aborted and Balrog. You can still clearly hear from the music that they came forth from the main band of MkM, not in the least because of his recognizable commanding vocal style. Most of the compositions are comparable to those of Antaeus and Hell Militia, but Aosoth is far from a direct copy of those bands, bringing a surplus of old school riffs in the vein of Craft to the raw, powerful base. The result is slightly less brutal, yet more varied Black Metal, demonstrated in for instance ‘Aura Of Pills (Part II)’. Perhaps to facilitate these dynamics, BsT chose to give the album a cleaner production than most of the comparable release tend to have, but it still sounds far from overproduced and flawlessly captures the intensity of the music. Especially the second half of the album has some excellent songs, and as a whole ‘Aosoth’ is another example of the strength of the French Black Metal scene, thereby making purchase pretty much essential for the followers.
