Ancst – Zorn [EP]

ancst – zorn [ep]

Info

A short and to the point EP from German band Ancst whose punishing style of bass heavy Black Metal is fused with myriad other styles and influences, including a touch of crust and a thick layer of grind and sludge. ‘Zorn’ is the Berlin bands most recent offering and follows up from 2020’s  fourth studio album ‘Summits of Despondency’. A furious twelve minute blast of gnashing riffs, ravenous vocal work and an oppressive back drop of carnage from the drums, ‘Zorn’ breaks out into moments of grinding intensity here and there but for the most part is a punishing lesson in devastation and hyper-aggressive guitar wielding. There is a touch of the windswept Black Metal melody to this, but that is often beaten down by the bands more perfunctory and default setting of outright brutality. A decent EP to listen too if not massively memorable.
