Abyssal Temple – Demo I – II [Compilation]

abyssal temple – demo i – ii [compilation]

Info

During 2021, Brazilian one man Black Metal project released a couple of demo offerings, and this year Lithuanian label Inferna Profundus Records put both demos together for a vinyl compilation release. What is one persons complete racket is another ones Mozart, and the Abyssal Temple sound is on the extremely lo-fi side of things, to the point where the guitars and bass are thoroughly lost within the mix to howling desperate vocals and to the drumming. The plus side of this is the excellent of said drumming, which I hope isn’t a machine as it is quite a display that is put on. When the guitar leads do surface from the gloom they are Buzzsaw like in their ferocious intensity though they only really have a chance to shine when the drums and vocals die down.

This demo compilation is only going to appeal to a very specific section of the Black Metal community, but then I do rather think that is the whole point. The constant drumming barrage is impressive, the howled agonizing vocals are laced with menace and when you can hear them, the simple abrasive guitar tones are grim, raw and nostalgic for Scandinavia in the early 90’s. With each of the eleven tracks being somewhat short and to the point, this compilation does grow on you but is always going to be considered a harsh listening experience. (Marksson)

Abyssal Temple’s compilation “Demo 1-2” is a fantastic listen… If you like Raw Black Metal. To those that are uninitiated in the black arts of Raw Black Metal, this release is probably too abrasive. Yet, what most Black Metal fans can agree on is the amazing riffs that are compounded by fascinating drumming. This demo compilation took me a few listens to kick in, but man, it was worth it! Fantastic stuff! (Mazchna)
