Phantom Fire – Eminente Lucifer Libertad

phantom fire – eminente lucifer libertad

Info

Norwegian Speed/Black Metal miscreants Phantom Fire have returned with their second full length album release ‘Eminente Lucifer Libertad’ which has been unleashed on both LP and cassette by Edged Circle Productions. A fast paced and short album that weighs in at half an hour and features three tracks under a minute, one of which is ten seconds and another at nineteen. other notable features that pertain to the actual music are a punishing bass tone that scrambles your brain, an abrasive vocal style that I imagine has been nurtured for many years through a daily mixture of spirits, cigarettes and growling, and a drumming style that is surprisingly bombastic for a release of this nature. Nor is this album a generic stream of repetitive riffs; in fact the guitar solos littered throughout are intricate and wild, the riffs bludgeoning but varied. There are tracks on here which scream of mid tempo Motorhead, all groove and bass and flair, such as the intoxicatingly good ‘Derive From Ash’ whose crushing bass leads and simple drumming surge forward methodically whilst groove drenched catchy riffs really hook you in. And if that isn’t enough, there is a sublime soundscape backdrop to this track that hints at a more Atmospheric Black Metal influence without ever lapsing into that style fully. I can think of few other more enjoyable ways to spend half an hour, than in the presence of this often surprising foray into Speed/Black Metal nirvana! Superb album!
