Vigilance [SVN] – Enter the Endless Abyss

vigilance [svn] – enter the endless abyss

What if Iron Maiden was a Black Metal band or Cronos of Venom was the lead singer of Iron Maiden? Well this band, Vigilance coming all the way from Postojna (Slovenia) would definitely give us the answer to this question, with the released of their fourth full-length entitled “Enter the Endless Abyss” that mixes all the elements of classic metal/rock, NWOBHM, melodic power metal, old-school black metal that has the use of melodic twin guitar riffs of NWOBHM, melodic power frenetic fretboard wizardry and the marriage of nice thick bass riffs, with mid-tempo drumming, punk attitude, speed metal aggression that is topped off with atmospheric Midnight (band) tone and the raw aggressive arrangements of Cronos’ vocals.

While listing to this new wave of Blackened heavy metal (as the band class them self as), While enjoying the music of Vigilance, I felt like I had travelled back in time in my sliver machine, back to the glory days of timeless classic of (70’s/80’s) rock and metal iconic bands, such as Iron Maiden, Bathory, Venom, Satan, Rainbow, Angel Witch and many more to name! so with a total playing time of 42 minutes & 25 seconds of eight raunchy and raw songs, that are over five minutes long, apart from the eighth track which is over seven minutes long of complexity, technicality, arrangements within the guitar riffs and drum playing and the vocals are just to die for, while making good use of the old-school black metal elements of energy, raw attitude, aggression, apart from the lyrics, which are on Occultism, War, History.

Making this album one awesome hell-bent, unique, dam enjoyable and a pleasure to discover albums to listen to, and not to forget that this album as the use of (kind of) eerie theatricality King Dimond keyboard inserts, that are embedded within the music, that is not heavy used and/or overused within the songs or the music. If you love your old-school Heavy/Black Metal music, this is a band to get your teeth into and to enjoy over again and again, time after time. (KristianM)
