Norden – Z popiołów i krwi…

norden – z popiołów i krwi…

Meaning North in German, Polish one man Viking metal band Norden have returned with an extremely enjoyable jaunt for his second full length album entitled in Polish as “Z popiołów i krwi…” and in English “From Ashes and Blood”. It’s been twenty long years, two whole decades since the brains and talent behind Norden, Northflame, released debut album “Glory in Flames” but the wait, whilst long and perilous, has borne fruit. In other bands and projects Northflame delves deeply into his Slavic heritage and history. Norden though, Norden is given over to a whole different beast! Vikings…

A fabulous mixture of wind swept winter interludes, melancholy folk inspired melodies, hard hitting riffs backed by dark vocal work with Black Metal influences, and an ever changing flowing tempo that never rests, never stagnates. “Z popiołów i krwi…” is an album that is extremely well put together, created as a labour of love and has taken not only musical talent but a deep sense of songwriting ability and forethought. The dark and mournful, fog wreathed and nature inspired contrasts brilliantly with the savage attach of a Viking Horde and guitar and drum form. “Z popiołów i krwi…” is an album of night and day, an album of sublime technical prowess and a mind who has mastered the art of storytelling. Haunting chanted vocals clash well with harsh guttural growls, and again with uplifting, inspiring guitar solos which wend and weave their way throughout proceedings like a well laid out saga. In short a sublime album for anyone who loves Vikings, Viking Metal and music of a resonant and atmospheric nature. (Heathen of the Horde)
