Info

Melodic Death Metal, a genre which I consider once great during the 90s but became not worth listening any more after the introduction of breakdowns, clean (“emotional”) vocals, all kind of other additions and of course, and although I understand it 100% but doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it, musical growth as a musician after the age of a teenager or early 20’er.

I think the turnaround was the end 90s, the demise of certain Gothenburg acts, changes in musical approach of bands like Dark Tranquillity and In Flames and the rise of Children of Bodom as well as the American scene who developed it in another direction in the early 2000’s.

Burn Down Eden from Germany does go back a bit in time, presenting Melodic Death Metal which is on the edge of the period of time I mentioned. Fast Melodic Death Metal in the Swedish vein combined with virtuosity of Children of Bodom or even old Helloween for that matter during the leads and the fast melodic parts, that is what you can expect on Burn Down Eden’s 3rd album.

Without any doubt I can say it is very well written and executed, although they could take the virtuosity part down a notch in my humble opinion…sometimes less is more, but this will attract a certain crowd who enjoy acts like Kalmah and early Arsis besides the aforementioned Children of Bodom and a bit more aggressiveness.
