Black Beast – Nocturnal Bloodlust

black beast – nocturnal bloodlust

Info

Black Beast from Vantaa, Finland are said to be a raw Black Metal band, formed in 2002. They’ve released a self-titled 7’ inch EP in 2005 and there was the split CD with Bloodhammer in 2006. Their sound may indeed have been raw and extremely blasphemous, however “Nocturnal Bloodlust” shows an additional new dimension to their brand of unholy Black Metal. “Nocturnal Bloodlust” still bears a heavy and very immense Finnish black metal sound but has also become a bit more melodic and mature, sound wise so to speak.

Opening track “Prelude” burst open like an ulcer with a huge sound, building up to what can be described as epic proportions before it abruptly dies away. Then “Black Seremony” detonates and one can hear the vast improvement of the sound, as well as the songs. The music remains filled with rabid tremolo picking/scrubbing over the strings, and insane blastbeat pounding drums. Throughout the entire album, there’s a rising tendency of taking each song to a climax. Keyboards are used here and there in a Spartan way to emphasize the atmosphere.

And then there are the vocals, a coarse barking in the old Teutonic thrash metal style of the 1980-ies spits out the lyrics. Less extreme than on the previous releases but still full of bile and rabid aggression. “Nocturnal Bloodlust” delivers 9 high velocity Black Metal tracks with old school Thrash influences, although it leans more over to Black Metal. Tracks like “Unholy One” are bit reduced in speed, but still thump like a sledgehammer. As said before : every track has this amazing increasing build up to a breathtaking climax. You can’t help it nor avoid it being swept away by the sheer power and merciless speed of “Nocturnal Bloodlust”

The albums itself boasts a clear, crisp production without being too polished, though. Lyricwise it’s still full of satanic blasphemies, chaos and other dark issues that we have come to appreciate so much. Without being ludicrous.

Fans of early Beastcraft, old Bathory, Nifelheim, Evil Angel, and other nasty über satanic critters will not have to hesitate to acquire a copy of the very first Black Beast full length. Prepare yourself for a 666 % certified Black Metal treat! No compromises! (LV)
